Week 4 of League Play just concluded, and we only have one more action packed week left before we see who qualifies for the Playoffs. This is going to be one of the most exciting weeks yet, as teams will be fighting their hardest to make it into the top 8 (or keep their current spots in the top 8) in order to continue playing in this season of CRL. More than 30 matches were played this week, and while the teams on top have been able to stay on top, the teams below the top 2 or 3 in each of the conferences have been trading spots like crazy. So today, we’ll summarize week 4 of League Play, and tell you what you need to know going into the final week.
East
The UCF Knights played no new matches last week as they’ve played most of their matches early. However, they remain on top, and will qualify for the East Conference Playoffs regardless of how their final two matches go against Stockton and Akron U. Make sure to tune into these matches anyway, though, because they’re sure to be explosive!
Northwood Blue didn’t play any new matches last week either, yet they still remain in second place. Northwood Blue still need to play the OSU Beanz, Seton Hall, the St. Clair Saints, and Stockton. However, they are also guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs regardless of how those matches go.
Stockton University remain in third place, and played 4 new matches last week, winning 3 of them. Stockton are guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs, but still need to play Northwood Blue, UCF, and the University of Florida.
The St. Clair Saints Gold played 2 new matches last week and won both (and one so far this week, but we’ll discuss that in the next recap). The Saints currently remain in fourth place, and are the final team in the Eastern Conference so far that have guaranteed their spot in the Playoffs. They still need to play Northwood Blue, Northwood White, and Oakland Esports.
The Akron Zips were able to climb to fifth place, up from sixth last week, after winning 2 of their 3 new matches played. They have a high chance of qualifying for the Playoffs, and have a 100% chance of securing a spot if they’re able to defeat at least 1 of their final 2 opponents, the UCF Knights and the University of Florida.
VESPA, or Virginia Esports Association, were knocked out of their fifth place spot last week by Akron and now hold sixth. However, they played no new matches last week, remaining in the top 6 because of their standing record of 7-5. VESPA have 3 matches left to play against the OSU Beanz, RIT Orange, and USF Esports. They have a high chance of qualifying already, but if they’re able to secure wins against at least 2 out of 3 of those teams, they will have a 100% chance at qualifying for the Playoffs.
Oakland Esports made an impressive jump from tenth place last week to seventh place this week after winning 2 out of 3 of their new matches played. They have 3 matches left to play against RIT Orange, Seton Hall, and the St. Clair Saints, and they have a good chance of qualifying. If they’re able to win all 3 of their final matches, they have a 100% chance to qualify for the Playoffs.
The Indiana Hoosiers were knocked out of their seventh place slot (which they held last week) by Oakland, and now hold the eight place slot. The Hoosiers were able to win 2 out of 4 of their matches played last week, and have 2 matches left to play against Valleyfield and the University of Florida. The Hoosiers have a good chance at qualifying for the Playoffs if they’re able to win these last two matches, but even if they do, they could be overtaken by the OSU Beanz or USF Esports if those teams are able to win their final matches.
West
Columbia College remain in first place in the Western Conference after winning all 3 of their matches played last week (and one so far this week, but that’s for next week’s recap). Columbia only have 2 matches remaining against SDSU and UNLV. However, regardless of the outcome of those final matches, Columbia have secured their spot in the Playoffs with their flawless 13-0 standing record.
LSU remain in second place after winning 5 matches last week and taking their first loss against Columbia College. LSU have 3 matches left to play against Missouri S&T, North Texas, and the Ottawa Braves. Regardless of the outcome of these matches, however, LSU have already secured their spot in the Playoffs.
UT Arlington have climbed from fourth place, which they held last week, up to third place this week after winning 2 out of 3 new matches played (and one match so far this week). UTA have 2 matches left to play against Cal Poly and UW Esports, and if they can win at least 1 out of 2 of their final matches, they will have a 100% chance at qualifying for the Playoffs. However, they have a very high chance of qualifying even if they lose both.
UNLV were knocked down from third place last week by UT Arlington and now hold fourth after winning 2 out of 4 of their new matches. UNLV have 3 matches left to play against Cal Poly, Columbia College, and the CSM Orediggers. If they can win at least 1 out of 3 of those final matches, they have a 100% chance at qualifying for the Playoffs, though they have a very high chance even if they lose all 3.
Mizzou Gold held sixth place last week, but have climbed up to fifth after winning 2 out of 3 of their new matches played. Mizzou have 3 matches left to play against the CSM Orediggers, CSUF, and UW Esports. If they can win all 3, they will have a 100% chance at qualifying for the Playoffs.
SDSU Red have made an impressive jump from ninth place, which they held last week, to sixth place this week after winning both of their new matches played (and additionally, winning 2 so far this week). SDSU are perfectly tied with Mizzou Gold, so the fifth and sixth place slots could be used interchangeably. SDSU still have 3 matches remaining, also against the CSM Orediggers, CSUF, and UW Esports, and they will need to win all 3 in order to have a 100% chance at qualifying as well.
Missouri S&T still hold seventh place after winning 2 out of 4 of their matches played last week. They have 3 matches left against LSU, North Texas, and UW Esports. Similarly to Mizzou and SDSU, if they can win all 3 of these final matches, they will qualify.
The Ottawa Braves have been demoted from fifth place to eighth after winning 1 out of 2 of their matches played last week. The Braves still have 3 matches left against Cal Poly, the CSM Orediggers, and LSU. If they’re able to win all 3, or even 2 out of 3, they have a high chance of qualifying for the Playoffs. However, they could still be overtaken by Cal Poly or North Texas, (or a few other teams if they lose 1 or more matches).
